SCMP Reporter

The Kuwait-based United Arab Shipping Co (UASC) has received a new vessel from a consortium led by Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

 The vessel, the Aseer, was launched yesterday, carrying the Saudi Arabian flag, a UASC official said.

 In 1996, UASC signed a US$653.77 million deal to buy 10 new ships, each with capacity for 3,800 containers, from the consortium. The other five will be delivered by mid-November.
