AN artist with an advertising agency was yesterday sentenced to nine months' jail by the District Court for indecently assaulting a 12-year-old girl in a lift. Chin Chi-shan, 20, pleaded guilty to the single charge. He had a clear record. The court heard that on March 22 last year the girl left her Sau Mau Ping flat to buy groceries. While she was waiting for the lift, Chin arrived. Both entered the lift. As the lift was descending, Chin used his wallet to jam open the doors, stopping the lift between floors. He then pushed the girl to the floor. She tried to struggle, but he forced her to remain still. Chin then removed her clothes and fondled her. The girl started crying and was threatened. Chin then removed his wallet from the lift door, allowing the lift to descend. The girl returned home and told her parents. Five days later, the girl saw Chin again and pointed him out to her father. Chin was then arrested. Judge Kilgour said, when sentencing him, that women, especially young girls, should be protected.
