Lai on Pace

HONG KONG champion apprentice Eddie Lai won Friday's Hong Kong Jockey Club Handicap at San down with his first race ride in Britain.

Lai, 25, led from start to finish aboard 20-1 shot Ya vana's Pace for leading trainer Mark Johnston, who said: 'It was a bit of a gamble as Eddie was having his first ride in Briatin but Chinese apprentices are well schooled, confident and experienced.'
