Airport complaints have flooded the Travel Industry Council, dampening hopes of a speedy recovery in the flagging tourism industry.

Council executive director Joseph Tung Yiu-chung said there had been 'lots of complaints'.

'In-bound agents have difficulties receiving visiting tourists because there are two exits. Others are angry about the lack of flight information,' he said.

The lack of flushing water was particularly annoying. 'We have been keen to wash away the impression that Hong Kong is a dirty city.' Members of the Board of Airline Representatives urged the Airport Authority to improve communication to airlines and passengers.

Describing the hiccups as teething troubles, tourism legislator Howard Young urged greater efforts to fix them. His sons, who returned from school in England on Monday, waited 2.5 hours for their bags.
