Going to the airport to catch a plane on time and anxious to get home after a long flight are the prime concerns of a traveller.
Last week I made two trips to the new airport, using different means of transport, so I could see for myself how Chek Lap Kok was faring. In the latest trip I took an E23 City Flyer.
After reaching the airport area, instead of heading straight off to the passenger terminal to drop travellers, it went round dropping off workers at different locations before finally arriving at the passenger terminal. Some passengers rushed to the departure lounge cursing the driver for wasting their time.
On my way back in the afternoon, I chose the same bus which circled the airport area for half an hour before heading for the Express Way. During this time passengers on the upper deck grew impatient, joking about the stupidity of the driver for wasting their time. One passenger even shouted abuse at the driver. I would urge the Airport Authority to set up its own transport system in the area to bring workers to and from the passenger terminal, because the present arrangement is inconvenient for air passengers.
L. TONG Hunghom With all the criticism that is being fired at the Airport Authority there is one group of people who I believe we should take our hats off to. That is those involved with planning and implementation of the move itself.
Not once have we heard of a plane or any of the massive amount of equipment that was not in place ready for operation on July 6, nor have there been any complaints about excessive noise during the night of July 5. In fact the move itself seems to be the one totally successful event in last few days. Congratulations to all those involved.
