Calls for airport bosses to step down mounted yesterday when a political party staged a protest at the airport terminal building.

Frederick Fung Kin-kee of the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood said airport chiefs should either resign or be sacked.

'Hank Townsend, who is the chief executive of the Airport Authority and fully responsible for the airport operation, should be punished.

'The authority should fire him and cancel all his pensions or gratuity payments,' he said. Mr Fung added authority chairman Wong Po-yan should resign.

He said waiting for the results of an independent inquiry, initiated by the Chief Executive on Friday, was not enough.

'The investigation will take at least three to four months but the major airport chiefs will have either retired or completed their contracts by then,' he said, adding the authority should seek compensation from contractors for the losses incurred.
