The first batch of 290 projects aimed at boosting student interest in learning and improving school management have been approved, the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee revealed yesterday.

The projects, ranging from educational research to study camps, music and sporting activities, will cost the Government $206 million.

The $5 billion Quality Education Fund was set up by Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa in his policy address last year.

The committee received 2,367 applications seeking $2.1 billion in the first batch of applications in March and April.

Among the successful applicants was Pui Ching Middle School, winning $10 million for developing computers.
