Sharing their recipes for success, outstanding students said repeated revision and asking questions when faced with problems were a big help.

Connie Wong Ka-man, 19, of Maryknoll Convent School, who scored five As in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examinations , said: 'Don't study too late at night, and wake up early to review again.'' She scored A(1)s in Use of English [AS], Chinese Language and Culture [AS], Physics, Chemistry and Pure Mathematics.

Jackie Liu Chun-kit, 19, of SKH Lam Woo Memorial College, who scored his five A(1)s in Business Studies, History, Economics, Use of English [AS] and Chinese Language and Culture [AS], said analytical and organisational skills were very important.

'Don't think arts subjects are just memory tests,' he said.

Cindy Hui Yat-sin, 18, of Diocesan Girls' School, scored A(1)s in Use of English [AS], English Literature and Psychology and A(2)s in Chinese Language and Culture [AS] and Economics. She said revision, clarification and rest were crucial to success.

Another Diocesan student, Cristy Ho Chiu-wing, 18, who obtained five As - A(1)s in Psychology and Geography and A(2)s in Use of English [AS], Chinese Language and Culture [AS] and Economics - said there was no need to attend extra tutorial classes. 'You should trust your teachers,' she said.

Shirley Sin Siu-suen, 18, of King's College, scored five A(1)s in Chinese Language and Culture [AS], Use of English [AS], Economics, Geography and History. Her advice was to understand the facts, not just memorise them.
