Most of us would expect kindergarten teachers to be able to explain to young children how to use computers.

While we usually think of adults as being nervous around computers, youngsters also can be tentative and need to be taught from an early age if they are to be comfortable. Early exposure in kindergarten is crucial.

At the Yew Chung Education Foundation kindergarten, each classroom has a couple of computers, which the children can use to learn language or maths.

There also is a programme of more fun things such as how to draw and paint by using the mouse and the keyboard.

Helen Jackson, co-principal of the early-childhood section at Yew Chung, said children also went to the primary school each week for lessons from science and technology teachers.

Yew Chung plans to upgrade its computers and provide more for its five-year-old children.
