Mita's Vi30 (left) can be used as a fax, laser printer and scanner. It has dual-access memory so that two tasks can be carried out at the same time. The 14.4 kbps modem is capable of faxing a PC or printed A4 text page in six seconds while the 600 x 600 dpi laser printer can print high-resolution photos and graphs.
Vi30 can copy at up to six pages per minute and has a 400 x 400 dpi scanning resolution compliant with TWAIN. The price is $7,500. Canon has packaged its BJC-255SP colour bubble-jet printer (below) with a Disney Print Studio Lion King CD-Rom to allow users to design their own greeting cards, notepads, postcards, calendars, colouring pages and labels.
Priced at $1,200, the printer has a super-economy mode Canon claims can reduce by up to one-fourth the amount of ink dispensed. In this mode, about 2,400 pages can be printed at 1,500 characters per page. The printer also has Canon's PhotoRealism technology to produce sharp colours for enhanced print quality when used with the photo-ink cartridge. The 255SP's featured image optimiser helps to minimise jagged-looking images of low-resolution images.
