Cable television provider Wharf Cable said yesterday 'several dozen' staff in its administration and human resources departments were made redundant last week.

External affairs director Garmen Chan confirmed that as of last week some staff had been laid off for 'economic reasons'.
He would not specify the exact number of workers.
However, Mr Chan denied the lay-offs were part of a bigger plan to reduce staffing levels.
'No further layoffs are planned,' he said.

'Overall, the economic climate has not been so good for many companies and it is prudent to cut costs . . . these staff just fell under the 'nice to have but not absolutely necessary' category,' Mr Chan said.
