Ricky Cheng Siu-chung is still waiting for West Ham United's confirmation of his trial with the English Premier League side.

Cheng, who returned from holiday on Monday night, showed up at the South China ground yesterday for the start of pre-season training.

But the 25-year-old star did not discuss his trip to Upton Park with South China chairman Albert Hung Cho-hong.

'My agent in England, Ian Leigh, called me last week while I was in San Francisco and said I had to wait for West Ham to confirm the details,' said the Hong Kong left-winger. 'So, I still have not talked to Mr Hung because I first want to know when I have to report to West Ham.

'If they want me to be there for a month, I may have problems because our league starts at the end of August.' Cheng and his South China teammates underwent light training under new Brazilian coach Luiz Milioli. They only ran for half an hour because their training ground was closed for maintenance.

The new South American signings, Paraguayan centre forward Fernando Ornelas, defensive midfielder Ailton de Araujo and defender Cristiano Cordeiro, attracted most of the media attention, while Chinese teammates Cheng, Au Wai-lun and Yau Kin-wai were most popular among local fans.

Milioli said he would fully observe his new charges when they started full training next week.
