Get the most from life
LIVING with the HIV virus is about learning how to get the most out of your life, not about learning how to play the victim. It is too easy to forget this, and most of the world would prefer that we do.
In fact, it doesn't matter whether you have AIDS, are HIV positive, or neither. Life is about learning how to get the most from it, and making the greatest contribution. Unfortunately, this is becoming less and less possible for those who are living withAIDS or are HIV positive. As the press heralds, prejudice and discrimination are increasing every day for people living with AIDS and HIV. We see this in the stalwart institutions of our lives: schools, offices, even health clubs.
Incidence of this uninformed discrimination is everywhere, and it is growing in Hongkong not diminishing, as it is everywhere else in the world. I am concerned that the current AIDS awareness programmes are having little effect on this ever-expanding ignorance. I am concerned that there is no HIV anti-discrimination legislation in Hongkong.
There are countless other human rights violations being committed against people living with AIDS and HIV every day in Hongkong.
Do you count yourself among those who strongly feel that this is wrong? Then join us. We are a group of people whose goal it is to take action by exploring ways to combat the growing discrimination experienced by people living with AIDS and HIV.
Be a part of the solution, and make your contribution. Remember, life is not about learning how to be a good victim. Life is about learning how to get the most from it, and how to make the greatest contribution.
