WAH Hin and Co, the construction and civil engineering subsidiary of Tak Wing Investment (Holdings) Limited, has appointed Mr Mak Kang-hoi as its managing director. Mr Mak has been managing director of Yong Zhing Construction Co since 1989, and executive director of the listed company since 1990. AMERICAN International Assurance Co Ltd (AIA) recently announced a number of senior promotions. Mr Ernest Chan has been promoted to assistant vice-president and assistant comptroller. In 1990, he joined AIA accounts department as chief accountant and was subsequently promoted to assistant vice-president and chief accountant. The new assistant vice-president and chief accountant is Mr Richard Cheung. Mr Cheung is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hongkong. He joined AIA in 1982. Ms Martina Chung has been promoted to assistant vice-president and assistant actuary. Ms Chung worked in a leading insurance companies in Canada before joining AIA in 1985. Also promoted is Mr Augustus Yuen. He has become assistant vice-president and associate actuary. CITIBANK has announced the appointment of Mr Victor Kung as executive director, direct investments of Citicorp International, the merchant banking vehicle of the bank. Mr Kung will be responsible for formulating and implementing Citibank's direct investment strategies in Asia. THE Shui On group has announced appointments in its construction materials division. Mr Edwin Yu has been promoted to director and general manager of Ken On Concrete Co, Instant Mortars Ltd, Shui On Quarries Ltd, and Lamma Rock Products Ltd, all of which are wholly owned subsidiaries of Shui On. Mr Barnabas Leung has been promoted to deputy general manager of Shui On's quarrying operation, while Mr John Leich has been appointed deputy general manager in charge of Shui On's ready mixed concrete and mortars operations. In his new capacity, Mr Yu will be responsible for the overall performance of the companies under his management as well as the planning and implementation of strategies. Mr Leung joined Shui On in 1978 and, before this appointment, was senior manager, marketing and development of the construction materials division. Mr Leich had extensive experience in the concrete and quarrying industries in Australia before coming to Hongkong to join Shui On. HILL and Knowlton Asia Ltd has announced the promotion of three of its consulting staff. Mr Bennett Cheng becomes account director responsible for management of McDonald's; Merck; Sharp & Dohme; and Upjohn accounts, while Mr Hugh Davies and Ms Antonia Leung become senior consultants. Mr Davies takes responsibility for business opportunities in Vietnam, in addition to his work in the company's corporate affairs division. Ms Leung is given wider responsibility for property, travel and tourism accounts. ZUNG Fu Co Ltd, sole distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Hongkong and Macau, has announced four new appointments. Mr Cheung Tat-man has been promoted to finance director. Mr Cheung joined Zung Fu in 1977 as senior accountant. Mr Michael Lee has been appointed sales and marketing director. Mr Lee will assume responsibility for the overall sales and marketing activities for Mercedes-Benz. Mr Jimmy So Woon-kwong has been promoted to general manager, commercial vehicle department. Mr So will be responsible for the overall development and management of the sales, parts and service business for commercial vehicles. The company also announced the promotion of Mr Leung Tat-ming to senior manager, service operation. Mr Leung joined Zung Fu in 1986 as an engineering trainee. ALLIED Industries International Ltd (AIIL) has appointed Mr Michael Chan as trading manager, responsible for AIIL's chemical trading activities worldwide. Mr Chan has extensive experience in production management and chemical marketing in Taiwan and mainland China. WHIRLPOOL (Hongkong) Ltd has announced two executive appointments. MR Peter Lau has been appointed general manager of CASL. He is responsible for managing a technical service team of more than 100. He is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, Canada. Mr Peter Wong has been appointed to replace Mr Lau as Whirlpool's marketing and sales manager, overseeing the sales and marketing operations of all the company's product lines. Mr Wong has a wealth of experience in the marketing of both fast-moving consumer products and durable goods in Hongkong.
