How to copy newspaper pages from the Internet
I download Internet editions of English and Chinese newspapers instead of cutting and photocopying. To save time and cost, I have tried an off-line program called Weblicator 1.0 to save the Web page of a newspaper.
When I go off-line and start the off-line version of the newspaper, I face no problems. But when I try to click the hyperlink, I get an error message that the link was not added to the 'favourite' folder of the newspaper under Weblicator. Is this a limitation of Weblicator 1.0 or is it possible for such an off-line program to copy everything, including all the hyperlinks? PATRICK TO Hong Kong Weblicator 1.0 from Lotus Development Corp was known to have problems. A more recent version promises to have fixed some of them.
Weblicator 1.0 was slow and lacked administrative options, which I suspect is the cause of your woes. You can manipulate it enough to get it to dump on to your PC everything you want.
Weblicator Version 1.02 includes more advanced searching capabilities and some fixes. You don't have as many error messages as with 1.0.
A program that has received better reviews is Web Buddy from DataViz. It is capable of scheduled page downloading and is said to be good for repetitive tasks. It can handle page, branch and Web-site grabbing well, so you should not face problems with your links. It also can HTML to Word documents so that you can print out better-formatted documents than from an ordinary Web browser.
This brings me to an important point. Clipping newspapers, electronically or in hard-copy form, for your own reference is fine, but be careful you don't go beyond that. Content on the Web, especially newspapers, is protected by copyright. This is still a grey area but it is clear unauthorised distribution of content is not acceptable.
