There are lots of films on tonight all with varying degrees of quality. Perhaps the best is the appropriately named After Hours (Pearl, 11.50 pm), a highly under-rated Martin Scorsese black comedy.

Griffin Dunne, best known as the dead friend in An American Werewolf in London, plays an ordinary guy, Paul, who works as a computer operator in New York City.

After picking up Marcy (Rosanna Arquette) in a coffee shop, the staid Manhattanite reluctantly follows her into Soho for the beginning of a night of sheer lunacy.

Scorsese captures perfectly the trendies and weirdos who inhabit lower Manhattan as the film touches on everything from punks to bondage enthusiasts to those lost in the big city.

The film is highly enjoyable and features a strong cast in Teri Garr, John Heard, Linda Fiorentino, Catherine O'Hara and Cheech and Chong, who are priceless as the bumbling burglars.

More lunacy prevails in Out on a Limb (World, 9.30 pm) as Matthew Broderick, currently in monster flick Godzilla, plays Bill Campbell, an unlikable yuppie.

Having long forgotten his roots in the remote logging town of Buzzsaw, Campbell has moved to the big city and successfully established himself within the business community.
