Second Prime Minister Hun Sen said yesterday he would continue to run the country with his existing government if opposition leaders carried out their threatened boycott of Sunday's election results.
'If those . . . parties do not come to the National Assembly, my Government with First Prime Minister Ung Huot will continue,' a relaxed-looking Mr Hun Sen told Thai television.
Funcinpec leader Prince Norodom Ranariddh and prominent dissident Sam Rainsy threatened on Tuesday to boycott the new Assembly.
They accused government officials and supporters of pre-election violence, intimidation of voters and systematic ballot fraud.
But Mr Sam Rainsy and 11 other opposition parties including Funcinpec yesterday appeared to back away from the boycott threat, saying he was protesting against the elections but would not reject the result.
'We object to the process which led to the result and we want an investigation with regard to serious irregularities and fraud,' he said.
