CUSTOMS officers are hunting for the ringleader behind a $27 million pirate video compact disc factory raided in Kwai Chung early yesterday. About 100,000 pirated VCDs - most of them Western movies - and computer game discs were seized from the factory in the Worsted Mills Industrial Building, Wo Tong Tsui Street. Officers arrested seven men and two women after finding staff copying discs. The haul included three stamping machines and other manufacturing equipment. Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau head Senior Superintendent Calvin Leung Ho said he believed the boss of the operation was still at large. 'The investigation took months of planning - the building had double doors and closed-circuit television,' he said. Most of the factory's output was believed to have been sold illegally in markets around Wan Chai and Mongkok, with the operation starting about three months ago, he said. Customs officers have smashed 10 other pirate CD factories since September.
