AWARDS Shipping (HK), a non-vessel-operating cargo carrier (NVOCC), is making waves in Hongkong. The business, started as a two-man operation by Hongkong businessmen Simon Dun and Ferrari Wong in February 1990, has since expanded to a 26-staff operation. ''We plan to increase our staff strength to 35 this year as business volume increases,'' said Mr Dun at a reception to mark the company's relocation into bigger premises in the Wing On Centre. Awards, which was formerly located in an 1,200 sq ft office has moved into an area of 3,000 sq ft. The company had been forced to move to bigger premises to provide better services to customers and to meet the strong growth of the business volume, Mr Dun said. The company, which handled about 3,000 containers and recorded a 15 per cent growth in 1991-92 over 1990-91, expects a 20 per cent growth this year. Exports from Hongkong accounted for 80 per cent of the company's business. Mr Dun said the company was planning to open offices in South Korea and Taiwan next year as part of its expansion programme. Awards, which had also started to handle transshipment business to China.
