Compensation claims are being prepared on behalf of mainland-born children who say their civil rights have been denied while they fight their cases in court.
The Society for Community Organisations, which supports the mainland children's right of abode here, said the claims would proceed as early as January.
About 300 of the children awaiting legal proceedings have been granted one-way permits to settle in Hong Kong in the past year.
Among them are Tsui Kuen-nang, 19, and Yeung Ni-ni, 11 - two of the five test cases lodged with the court.
The cases, representing about 1,500 children offered legal aid, are due to be heard at the Court of Final Appeal on January 6.
A Legal Aid Department spokeswoman said yesterday Mr Tsui had agreed to continue the proceedings despite having been granted residency. But whatever the court ruled, his status would not be affected.
