Police are to increase vice raids in Yuen Long after mainland women travelling on tourist visas were found working as prostitutes.
Mainland prostitutes could be found in 16 short-time hotels in Yuen Long, according to deputy district commander Senior Superintendent Chan Yiu-wing.
'We believe some mainland women get mainland-issued two-way permits to come to Hong Kong and find their way to short-time hotels in Yuen Long where they have a deal with operators,' he said.
'Each customer is charged between $300 and $400 but the mainland woman is required to pay the hotel operator $150.' Mr Chan believed while mainland prostitutes had been increasing in numbers for more than a year, the number of short-time hotels in Yuen Long had dropped from 22 in 1996 to 16 this year.
In the latest raid, police closed a vice establishment at 71 Hong Kong Street yesterday.
