More than 200 sales staff and suppliers demonstrated outside Shenzhen's municipal government building yesterday demanding compensation over an alleged fraud at a department store. The protesters said the Government had failed to protect their interests over a scandal at the Bao'an Guangkelong Department Store. Witnesses said about 100 demonstrators remained at the building last night and vowed to return today. The store opened in June but was closed after just 21 days. Xie Jinfu, who had rented the building, was questioned by police and bailed but has disappeared, with retailers, suppliers, employees and decorators claiming he owes them more than 10 million yuan (HK$9.3 million).
