Food lovers are going to be overwhelmed in the next two weeks. As well as the Hong Kong and Lan Kwai Fong food festivals from August 8-23, there will be a food expo at the Convention Centre from August 19-23.

Unlike the wine expo in June, which was open only to those in the trade, the public is welcome at the food expo. In addition to more than 170 exhibitors showing bakery items, beverages, soups, ice-creams and other products, there will be cooking demonstrations, entertainment and a treasure hunt which allows participants to enter a lucky draw. The Conrad Hotel now has a dessert buffet in the Lobby Lounge, available nightly for $128 plus 10 per cent. It has Western and Chinese desserts, including ice-creams and sorbets, tiramisu, creme brulee, souffles, fresh fruit, mango pudding, red bean soup and turtle cream with herbs. The Hongkong Hotel also recently started a dessert buffet taking place from 9-11pm, Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays. Guests can enjoy this in the Lobby Lounge for $78 plus 10 per cent. It includes cheesecake, crepes, tiramisu, ice-creams and fruit tarts. Call 2113-3919.

The Kowloon Hotel has extended its dessert sections - available with lunch, dinner and supper buffets in the Window Cafe and tea buffet in the Middle Row Bar and Lounge - until August 31; phone 2369-8698.

August 15 is Indian Independence Day, and Koh-I-Noor is celebrating with a special $90 (plus 10 per cent) menu from August 8-15, which includes curries, lassis and desserts. Koh-I-Noor has branches in Taikoo Shing, Lan Kwai Fong, Tsim Sha Tsui and Sha Tin.
