Clean-up activities have been organised at eight ungazetted beaches throughout Hong Kong. Some 270 members of Community Youth Clubs from 14 secondary schools are taking part in the campaign on five consecutive Sundays. The selected beaches in urban areas and the New Territories are: Stanley Main; Hair Pin in Stanley; Stanley Pak Kan Village; Deep Water Bay; Shek O Rocky; Nai Chung in Sai Kung; Wu Kai Sha in Shatin, and Dai Kwai Bay in Cheung Chau. The litter-picking activity is organised by the Joint Provisional Urban Council/Provisional Regional Council Keep Hong Kong Clean Steering Committee and the Education Department. A spokesman for the Keep Hong Kong Clean Campaign said: 'Through direct participation in the clean-ups, students will not only enjoy a meaningful outing in summer, but they will also realise the importance of keeping the environment clean and become more aware of their civic responsibilities.'
