United States software producer SunGard EBS yesterday launched a program for use in Hong Kong's long-awaited Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme. The program, designed in conjunction with AIA Pension & Trustee, will have applications in English and Cantonese. Head of SunGard's Asian operations Michael Meaney said the company hoped to sign up more clients to use its software in the insurance and mutual funds industries and banks by the end of the year. But delays in the MPF's implementation had held up negotiations, Mr Meaney said. 'We're as keen as anyone to hear the Government nominate a time,' he said at a company presentation. Mr Meaney said SunGard was keen to expand its presence in Asia through its regional headquarters in Hong Kong. It was also involved in discussions with authorities in Thailand, the Philippines and Taiwan. These were at varying stages of progress in implementing employee benefits schemes. SunGard is the world's biggest provider of specialised software for the provident-fund industry.
