Thousands of eager pop music fans turned out to boogie at the birthday party of the year. No expense was spared for Metro Broadcast's seventh anniversary celebrations at the Hong Kong Coliseum. In fact, everyone was having so much fun, the show exceeded its time limit. Organisers said they had to pay a fine of $100,000 for the extra hour. Canto-pop stars and local bands Beyond and Sisters dominated the bill, but four Taiwanese singers also impressed. Chen Yi-jing, Wu Pei-zi, Li Xin-jie and Xu Wei-yu added exotic appeal with their sensational performance. Enthusiastic fans, many brandishing luminous sticks and waving colourful banners, gave their pop idols whole-hearted support. Beyond set the scene with their refreshing act, before Sammi Cheng, Kelly Chen, Eason Chan, Nicholas Tse, Edmond Leung, Leo Ku, Bondie Chiu, Alex To and Hawick Lau got the audience screaming for more. Metro DJs, who took turns to play magicians, kung fu fighters, dancers and stand-up comics, also entertained the audience. The climax was the performance by heart-throb Aaron Kwok who had girls in the crowd swooning with his love ballads and hip-shaking.
