The grandson of gambling tycoon Yip Hon was shot in an attempted kidnapping in Macau yesterday but drove his attackers away in a blaze of bullets.
Yip Wai-tong, 46, was shot in the stomach at about 11am at Avenida Republica, near the Hotel Bela Vista and the Governor's official residence.
Police said Mr Yip was walking to his car when a van approached and two shots were fired at him.
Despite being hit by a bullet, Mr Yip drew his licensed revolver and fired back. He was said to have fired all six shots, before the van and its three occupants drove off.
It is believed a total of eight shots were fired.
The van was found abandoned near an orphanage, about 500 metres away. Its windows were shattered and ropes found inside.
Police said the shooting was a bungled kidnap attempt on Mr Yip.
