The Government Property Agency (GPA) will release another 54 units at its police married quarters in Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, for lease after receiving a strong response to the initial offer. A GPA spokesman said 51 out of 54 units in the first batch were leased at an average rent of $10 per square foot a month since they went on the market on Thursday. The enthusiastic response prompted GPA to offer an additional 54 units for lease at the same rate yesterday. Centaline Property Agency Kennedy Town branch sales supervisor Chan Wing-hong said the fast take-up rate in the development was due to the attractive price, with small flats still sought after in the district. He said the monthly rental was only about $4,000 to $8,000 per unit given the size of units at between 400 sq ft and 800 sq ft. The Government also offered a one-month rent-free period to lure tenants, he said. The preferential term and rental had attracted more than 100 people to queue up for viewing of the units on Thursday. The GPA spokesman said no units at the other two projects - Baguio Villa in Pokfulam and surplus quarters at Caldecott Road in Cheung Sha Wan - had been leased so far. The Government opted to lease 55 surplus quarters at Baguio Villa and 20 units at Caldecott Road after the units failed to draw buyers. Agents attributed the slow take-up rate at the two projects to the higher unit rents of $28,000 to $34,000 per unit a month.
