I REFER to the letter concerning the traffic accident on Tai Tam Road (South China Morning Post, February 13). Although during the last 12 months two accidents have been recorded on this stretch of Tai Tam Road, there is no evidence to indicate that this stretch of road, outside the American Club, is a dangerous location as alleged. The accidents were quite different. The first involved a bus turning right and colliding with a traffic sign and the other a collision with a little girl as described in the letter. According to police investigations, the latter case was a pure pedestrian negligence case in which the girl walked across the road from behind a stationary bus and was knocked down by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. In addition, there were no trench works on the road at the accident spot. However, the contractor who carries out the roadworks in the nearby area has been reminded to take every precaution to enhance road safety. S. K. TAI for Commissioner for Transport
