Are you sitting comfortably?

'Must clean up Central' (South China Morning Post, July 8) by Sam Chulani makes me wonder just how comfortable your life is, Mr Chulani. You probably have your own house in which to spend your day off, with cable TV, and stereo.

Being a domestic helper is not easy. Working 12 to 16 hours, six days a week, a day off is a big break for us. Not even former governors Lord Wilson nor Chris Patten stopped us gathering at Central on Sundays. How would you feel in your second life to swap places with us and listen to your rude comments.

I also would like to clarify that not only Filipino domestic workers go to Central on our day off, but there are also Thais, Indonesians, Sri Lankans and Indians. So please don't pick on Filipinas.

In a way, I agree with Mr Chulani about the mess at Central (although I don't go there on my day off). It is not domestic helpers' intention to make such a mess, because of the enormous numbers gathering on Sundays, all the bins in Central are not enough to accommodate the refuse generated.

I suggest that groups and organisations congregating there help Sam Chulani solve his problems. Please bring along a large bin bag every Sunday or on any day off, collect all the waste you are making, tie up the bags and put them in the proper places for the garbage collector to remove the following day.

In this way we can make Mr Chulani a little more happy with his problem about Filipino domestic workers.
