Hewlett-Packard has rolled out a series of digital imaging products for home and small-business users. The DeskJet 695C, priced at $1,498, is a low-cost colour printer. Users can upgrade to photo-quality printing with an optional photo cartridge available at $250. The printer supports a new ink-saving mode, and prints five black-and-white, or 1.7 colour pages per minute. It features improved ColorSmart II technology, including the sRGB standard which is co-developed by HP and Microsoft to ensure consistent colour matching between the monitor and printer, and SmartFocus which optimises low-resolution images, for example, from the Internet, to improve output clarity and sharpness. Priced at $5,288, the OfficeJet 635 colour printer-fax-copier-scanner is the cheapest add-on to HP's present line of OfficeJet colour all-in-one products. The new OfficeJet can print five black-and-white or two colour pages per minute. For faxes, it supports a transmission rate of six pages per minute and speed dialling of up to 100 numbers, with memory storage of up to 65 pages. As a scanner, it supports 1,200 dots-per-inch, 24-bit colour and a 256-level of grey-scale scanning. HP also introduced new multimedia PCs and a CD-rewritable drive for image processing and storage. The HP Pavilion 8318 desktop PC has a Pentium II 350 MHz processor, 64 MB memory and 8 gb hard drive. The 8328 model has a 400 MHz processor, 96 MB memory and 12 gb hard drive. Pre-loaded with Windows 98, both multimedia PCs have an 8 MB video Ram, 2x DVD drive, 32-bit audio software wave table, stereo speakers and K56flex modem. The 8318 and 8328 are priced at $16,998 and $21,388, respectively, with a 15-inch monitor, and $18,611 and $22,951 with a 17-inch monitor. The new CD-Writer Plus 8100i is an internal rewritable IDE drive with 650 MB of storage capacity. It reads data at up to 24x transfer speed, and writes it at up to 4x transfer speed. It costs $3,699. Next month, a series of input devices, including digital cameras and scanners, will be released. With a 4 MB memory card (upgradable to 30 MB), the PhotoSmart C20 one-megapixel digital camera includes new PhotoSmart photo-finishing software, which downloads photos automatically when the camera is connected to a PC. It also supports TV connection with a 4.98-metre cable. The embedded software also enables users to crop, adjust lighting and colour, and add captions to their photos before printing. Multiple photos can be printed on the same sheet of paper using the new page-layout feature.
