THE Government will report to the Legislative Council's Public Accounts Committee next month on its progress in securing $545 million which the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees owes the territory. Government Refugee Co-ordinator Mr Brian Bresnihan said it would give a formal reply on recommendations made in a committee report in January. The report said the Government ''might not have pursued with sufficient vigour all the possible avenues'' for full and fast reimbursement, and recommended the Government urge Britain to increase its contribution or Hongkong could reconsider its position on defence costs paid to Britain.
