A housewife who hacked her elderly husband's neck four times with an axe was yesterday acquitted of murder. It took a jury nine hours to find Chan Lin-heung, 41, not guilty of murder. But they convicted her of the alternative charge of manslaughter by reason of no intent. The wife told the Court of First Instance her husband woke her up and began attacking her with an axe claiming he wanted her to 'join him in hell'. Wan Hoi-wan, 69, told his wife his life was coming to an end and that he wanted them to die together. He locked the doors of their bedroom and began hacking her with his weapon. But she managed to wrest it from his grasp and then turned on her attacker. Mr Justice Michael Hartmann granted bail and adjourned sentencing until Monday.
