A motorcyclist yesterday launched a holy war against the 'devil's laws' that saw him convicted of disobeying a traffic sign and driving without valid insurance or registration.
'Jesus Christ represents insurance and registration fees,' Lau Kok-lam told his Court of First Instance appeal.
'The magistrate convicted me. In turn he has desecrated the holy blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus Christ is more divine than the legislation.' Mr Justice Azizul Suffiad rejected the appeal. As judgment was passed, Lau produced a battered Bible from a plastic bag and read to himself.
'If the law is interfering with God, then it is the devil's law,' he told the judge after losing his battle.
Lau, in his 50s, had been convicted of driving an unregistered, unlicensed motor vehicle, using a motor vehicle that was uninsured and failing to comply with a road sign.
On September 3 last year the construction worker rode a motorcycle down Jordan Road in a left-turn-only lane. When he reached the intersection with Canton Road, he drove straight through. A constable pulled him over and Lau admitted not having valid insurance.
