A woman abandoned by her husband after a traffic accident left her with a deformed nose has launched a damages action against the driver she claims is responsible. Chau Choi-ling, 35, who has a young son, was knocked down after stepping out of a taxi on June 24, 1996. She was left with 'gross disfigurement' to her nose, which was shortened and scarred as a result, according to a writ filed in the High Court. Her husband abandoned her a year after the accident 'and since then has kept no contact with her because of her disfigurement', the writ alleges. Ms Chau is said to have been afflicted by psychological and physical suffering and to have lost confidence in herself. Before the accident she was a clerk but lost her job and is now unemployed. She accuses Chang Chun-shing of negligently driving the car which knocked her down in Lam Hing Street, Kowloon Bay.
