THE age of the hi-tech home seems nearer than ever now that fuzzy logic, or artificial intelligence, has begun to infiltrate into almost every aspect of our daily lives, from roasting a chicken to conditioning the living room's temperature, and from tuning the television to bleaching a blouse.

  But no modern home would be complete without the latest gadgets which allow its inmates to keep pace and in touch with the fast-evolving world outside.

    The advent of homefax and the more recent appearance of consumer video telephony have no doubt helped redefine personal relationships and made the home the focal point of communications.

  Hongkong consumers will have the opportunity to see the latest in home communications equipment from Hongkong Telecom CSL at the Electrical Home Appliances Expo.

  The focus of attention will be on the company's Videophone, which, for the first time in Hongkong, brings advanced colour motion video calls within the reach of the average consumer. Live demonstration on the stand will enable visitors to see the phone in operation, focusing on its high video quality as well as its varied functions.

  The Telecom CSL Videophone will be available at the special promotional introductory price of $5,388 per unit.

   A number of compact and multi-featured fax machines designed for personal use will also be on display.

  Among them is the new KX-F130B, which incorporates fax, telephone answering machine, duplex ringing and copier function all in one unit.

  Users will also appreciate its capability to straighten out curly documents and save paper by condensing text on incoming documents.

  Another innovative product which Telecom CSL will be showing at the expo is the Trimset D, the first telephone on the market which can provide differentiated ringing when used in parallel with another telephone or fax machine.

  The benefit is more convenience to the user as confusion caused by simultaneous ringing of different equipment is avoided.

    What is more, Telecom CSL is offering 10 per cent and 20 per cent discounts on the purchase of one and two units respectively of any telephone product, including cordless phones, feature phones and answering machines.
