Loansharks arrested

Three suspected Taiwanese loansharks were arrested in Macau after a Hong Kong man was freed from a hotel room. Police said it was the first time Taiwanese had been found involved in loansharking.

The victim had borrowed $200,000 from the syndicate, police said, but had had to hand over $40,000 as commission. He was being held in the hotel until he was able to repay the loan.
