The insurance liability on more than 20 overnight routes after the handover of services is still unresolved.
Assistant Commissioner for Transport Alan Lui Sung-yee, speaking on a radio phone-in programme yesterday, said 90 per cent of arrangements relating to the handover had been settled.
But insurance cover for more than 20 drivers on overnight routes in the early hours of next Tuesday remained unresolved. 'It is not clear whether First Bus or CMB is to be responsible for compensation. It has to be discussed further,' he said.
Mr Lui said the department would monitor bus services on Tuesday, especially in school areas at Braemar Hill and Siu Sai Wan. Other bus firms will increase services to ease the handover.
Kowloon Motor Bus will increase frequencies on 24 cross-harbour routes, Citybus will deploy 50 more buses and about 100 buses will be run by non-franchised companies.
Mr Lui said he expected there would be no need for schools to start lessons late on Tuesday, but believed some parents would prefer to drive children to school.
