The cash-strapped 123 Democratic Alliance is seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure its survival. But the target of a fund-raising gala on Sunday is still two to three times short of the budget for the coming year, the pro-Taiwan party's chairman, Tai Sik-kwan, said. Mr Tai said the SAR's economic woes might hurt the party's chances of survival. 'Although everyone is hit by the financial crisis these days, we hope to maintain our previous target of raising some hundreds of thousands of dollars,' he said. Having decided to try to strengthen its supporter base in preparation for elections, Mr Tai said the party might have to spend more than $1 million in the year ahead. He said celebrities were being invited to Sunday's fund-raiser, to be held in a restaurant. 'We are not sure if response will be as good as before,' Mr Tai said.
