I am writing to ask TVB, through these columns, if it could show again the excellent science documentary titled, The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
This documentary tells how astronomers are trying to make use of radio telescopes in the hope of receiving radio signals from extraterrestrial civilisations that may exist in our galaxy.
Through their efforts, these astronomers are trying to find the answers to some basic questions, such as: are we alone in the universe? Are we unique? Where do we stand in the universe? What does it mean to be a human being? If someday we were able to discover that we are not alone in the universe, this would have a profound impact on many aspects of our civilisation, influencing the way we thought about science, religion, culture, history and philosophy.
This documentary was first broadcast on June 17, 1994, on Pearl Channel.
It was quite an outstanding programme and I do hope that the station will consider my request to show it again.
