Troubled freight forwarding company AWT Holdings has been slapped with a High Court writ demanding $8.3 million in alleged unpaid loans. Canadian Eastern Finance is seeking the sum from AWT as guarantor after the original borrower, Konmore, defaulted in payments in June this year, according to the High Court writ. Despite repeated demands to Konmore, the sum has not been paid. Similar action was taken to recoup the money from AWT, to no avail, the writ said. Canadian Eastern is also seeking interest at the rate of 6.5 per cent per annum and costs. AWT said in May that it had received writs from creditors demanding repayment of $45 million. The company suffered a net loss of $287 million for the five months to February.
