If everything goes as planned, the Epicurean Group - the company behind Sherman's and the Milk Bar - will open two outlets today. Live music cafe Gig is set to open at 17 Lan Kwai Fong in the space that once housed Dillinger's Saloon. It will serve an eclectic menu of international cuisine, from Vietnamese spring rolls and Singaporean laksa to French onion soup and veal sausage with garlic mashed potatoes. Call 2521-2203. Bar and nightclub Tribeca will be at 38-44 D'Aguilar Street, where Dillinger's Steak House once was. It will have a limited snack menu that includes crispy chicken wings and steak sandwiches. Call 2521-2202. The Marco Polo Hotel is holding a five-course dinner in La Brasserie on September 8, featuring wines from producer Reine Pedauque in Burgundy. The company's wine exporter Claude Bonnet will host the dinner. The meal includes tian of prawns, crab and scallops on avocado tartare, accompanied by Pouilly Fuisse 1996, duck liver with sweetbread and cranberry ragout with the Puligny Montrachet 1995, and with the Savigny les Beaune 1991, a hazelnut and coriander crusted veal fillet. The dinner is $520 plus 10 per cent. Phone 2113-7925. From September 1 to October 31, the Renaissance Harbour View is featuring French wines in nightly tastings at the Oasis Lounge. For $150 plus 10 per cent, guests can drink as much as they wish from a selection of seven wines. If you need a stronger drink, the Oasis Lounge has vodka night every Wednesday from 5pm to 2am, featuring Danzka vodka from Denmark. Matsutake mushrooms, a seasonal specialty from Japan, will be featured during September in Sagano restaurant at the Hotel Nikko. These rare and expensive mushrooms are available only during autumn.
