TUNG TO THANK SHENZHEN OFFICIALS

Tung Chee-hwa will visit Shenzhen on Monday to thank municipal and airport officials for helping out during the Chek Lap Kok cargo crisis.

'I will make use of the visit to personally thank the Shenzhen municipal officials and Huangtian airport authorities,' he said.

Mr Tung felt it was time to offer thanks now that cargo operations were back to normal, his spokeswoman said.

'They put in a lot of effort,' she said.

'They had put all support possible in place although not many companies made use of it.' Only one plane used Huangtian airport to divert 58 tonnes of cargo from the SAR to Los Angeles and Chicago.

An extra 120 workers were deployed at the airport to help handle the cargo, but only 30 were needed.
