THREE police constables, charged with conspiracy to solicit $800,000 from a defendant in a drug case, will appear in the District Court for pleas this month. Yeung Chi-chiu, 29, Fu Kam-wing, 25, and Chow Hon-ping, 23, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Mr David Thomas in Fanling Court. They are jointly charged by the ICAC with one count of having conspired on March 16 to solicit $800,000 from Wong Wing-hung in return for deliberately failing to tell the whole truth when called upon to testify in a District Court trial. Wong had been charged with possessing dangerous drugs for unlawful trafficking. Yeung and Fu face another joint charge of accepting $50,000 from Wong on March 30 for a similar reason. The three defendants are also jointly charged with having conspired with Wong, between January 4 and March 30, to pervert the course of justice by agreeing to vary the testimony that Fu and Chow would otherwise give against Wong in order to vindicate Wong in his trial. Yeung and Fu were each granted bail at $50,000 in cash and $25,000 in surety. Chow was also bailed out at $25,000 in cash and a similar amount in surety. They undertake to surrender their travel documents, to reside at fixed addresses, not to leave the territory and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
