Ten youngsters have been rewarded for their excellent achievements in a variety of fields ranging from the arts and studies to voluntary services.
They fought off 350 other competitors in the second Outstanding Teens Election, organised by the Hong Kong Playground Association and the Outstanding Young Persons' Association, and supported by RTHK Radio 2.
Doris Wong Kit-hung, co- ordinator (training and development) of the playground association, said the aim of the programme was to identify those aged 10 to 16 whose contributions were not confined to one specific area.
The competition was divided into two categories - junior (aged 10 to 13) and senior (14 to 16). The youngsters could join one of the three groups - Personal Achiever, Life Fighter, or Social Helper - in accordance with their ability.
In addition to winning a trophy, the winners took part in the Teen Ambassadors Exchange Tour to Beijing and helped promote Hong Kong among mainlanders.
Jack Wong Ling-sze, 16, a Personal Achiever (senior section), said he had a talent for Chinese poems and won many competitions. The Form Five student at Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School said he wrote about 100 poems in Primary Four.
