Disgraced legislator Chim Pui-chung will be allowed to vote on the motion to disqualify him at the Legco sitting next week.

'As Mr Chim is still a member of the council at the time that the vote takes place, he has the right to take part in the vote on the motion,' Legco Secretariat's deputy secretary-general Law Kam-sang said yesterday.

The motion to relieve Chim of his duties requires the support of two-thirds of members present.

But Mr Law said that any member who thought Chim had a direct financial interest in the decision could table a motion to make the vote null and void - after votes were cast.

It emerged yesterday that the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong is having second thoughts about whether to support the motion to disqualify Chim.

Secretary of the party caucus Ip Kwok-him said the party was trying to find out when a by-election would be held if Chim was disqualified.
