The University of Western Ontario's Richard Ivey School of Business has opened its Hong Kong institute.
A donation of C$5 million (about HK$26.6 million) was made by Henry Cheng Kar-shun, managing director of New World Development, to fund the Cheng Yu Tung Management Institute which was named in honour of his father.
Mr Cheng said the institute would play a leading role in the development of management education in Hong Kong and the mainland.
'The teaching and research programmes that will be provided at the institute will strengthen Hong Kong and the mainland's competitive posi tion and enable future managers to have brighter opportunities,' he said.
Lawrence Tapp, dean of the Richard Ivey School of Business, said: 'With the mission of taking a leadership role in furthering knowledge, understanding and partnerships with business education leaders in Asia, Ivey is committed to Asian research, case writing and case teaching, and quality degree and executive education with Asian relevance.' Joseph DiStefano, professor and executive director of the Asia Institute, said a centre to research case studies of Asian businesses would be developed.
The 21-month part-time Executive MBA programme is at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and will have 23 students.
