HAPPY Valley got their league campaign off to a flying start last night with a 4-0 demolition of Golden at Mongkok Stadium. Goals from Martin Kuhl, Kwok Yue-hung, Michael Midwood and Cheung Sai-ho provided Valley with an emphatic win that suggested their pre-season confidence of challenging for this year's title is well founded. 'There is a genuine feeling among the squad that we can go one better this season and win the title,' said Valley goalkeeper Peter Guthrie. 'With only three foreigners in the squad, it is important to have good Chinese players - and we have got very good Chinese players as you could see tonight.' In the earlier match, Sing Tao gave Sai Kung Friends a harsh lesson by handing them a 4-0 thrashing in their First-Division debut. The problem-plagued Sing Tao proved they were not hindered by recent squad and management changes. Utility player Sung Lin-yung, who joined the Tigers from South China this season, scored his first for his new side in the 35th minute with a free-kick from just outside the box. Hong Kong forward Wai Kwan-lung doubled the tally in the 52nd minute after meeting an Anto Grabo cross. Wai struck again in the dying minutes after the unmarked Croatian forward Zeljko Gavrilovic had made it 3-0 in the 61st minute. Sai Kung Friends did have a few chances last night, but their lack of experience resulted in a blank score sheet. They also suffered a setback in the 18th minute when Brazilian striker Jose Alexandre Da Costa Rosta dislocated his right shoulder. Yee Hope have terminated the contract of former Brazilian forward Antonio Rinaldo Goncalves. Club chairman Joe Chan Leung said Goncalves failed to fit into the team even though he was a skilful player.
