SIX suspected smugglers were arrested and a car and two speedboats were recovered during two operations off Lamma Island and Sai Kung yesterday.
The operations were part of the new anti-smuggling campaign, Operation Disavow, by the Anti-smuggling Taskforce with the help of the Government Flying Service.
At about 4.15 pm, a high-powered speedboat, loaded with a second-hand, left-hand-drive BMW, was spotted off Lamma heading towards Chinese waters.
A patrolling marine police launch intercepted it near Kau Yi Chau with the support of a helicopter from the Flying Service.
Three men jumped overboard and another speedboat was spotted heading to the scene, believed to be attempting to pick up the trio.
The second speedboat fled as police intercepted and arrested the three, all in their 20s and reportedly from Huidong, Guangdong.
