The Hong Kong Investment Funds Association (IFA) today will name Desmond Chan Kwok-kit as its new chairman. Mr Chan, who is head of provident fund services at Jardine Fleming, takes over the chairmanship from Lin Yoke Seetoh who has been acting chairman for several months. He has been in the pension fund industry for about 10 years and has served as head of the IFA's pension fund sub-committee. Mr Chan has been vocal in his support for the Mandatory Provident Fund and its benefits for all those involved. He has repeatedly called for its prompt implementation. Today's announcement of his appointment comes as the first meeting of the Mandatory Provident Fund Authority approaches. The authority is expected to consider a timetable for the start-up of the scheme, not expected before mid-2000. Mr Chan was unavailable for comment last night.
